MAHA 2010 was really something to be proud of because 22 countries took part in this event in promoting agriculture mainly towards towards business and daily usage.
This event was officially launched by non other than our Prime Minister
Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak. This event consists of agricultural booths, herbal booths, overseas products, different types of materials from different countries, pearls, jeweleries, latest technologies from leading countries and much more to see and observe. I really had the best time with my family at the event eventhough we only could spend a little time over there because it started raining heavily.

THIRUKAARTHIGAI DEEPAM 2010 ( തിരുകാര്‍തിഗ ദീപം )

Generally Indians all over the world celebrate another festival of light other than Deepavali, which is " Thirukaarthigai Deepam " or " Thiruvannaamalai Deepam ". The festival is celebrated on the first day of the full moon day on ' Karthigai ' month. It is also considered as the extension of Deepavali festival.
The proper way to celebrate this festival is by lighting up lamp on Deepavali day itself and doubling the number of lamps everyday. By this way, we are supposed to end up with a large number of lamps on the of " Thirukaarthigai Deepam ". There are two stories behind this sacred day :-

(1) One day Lord Shiva asked Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu to find the exact location
of his head and his feet. Since Lord Shiva has taken a gigantic form, they are not able to find it anywhere. Then, Lord Shiva takes a form of ' jyothi ' ( light of fire ) on the hill of Thiruvannaamalai.

(2) Lord Muruga took the form of six little babies in a lake called " Saravana Poigai ". On this day all his six forms were united by Goddess Parvathi ( his mother ), by this way he has six faces. Special poojas are performed to Lord Muruga.

During this day, people usually clean the house. In the evening, kolam ( rangoli ) are drawn in front of the house and also place lamps on it. The lamps are also placed in the pooja room and lighted. Then the ' Deepaathaarana ' is done in which the lamps are moved to different places in the house. The lamps are arranged near the doors, windows, and also balconies. This is how this festival is celebrated.

Below are the pictures taken in my house during
" Thirukaarthigai Deepam ".
